What is sport massage?

Sports massage involves the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity. It consists of various techniques that are either applied on specific body parts or throughout the body. Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance. It also aids recovery and prevents injury.

How can sport massage help me?

When applied beforeexercise, the strokes are more diffuse and quicker and aim to increase the blood flow to the muscles, to “awaken” the nervous system and to prepare the body for the exercise that follows. This is very beneficial for the athletes as it substitutes part of the warm up, without without straining the athlete.

After exercise, the therapist with deeper and more specific techniques tries to remove lactic acid, loosen the stressed muscles and stop trigger points.
